Ndindi Nyoro leaves UDA, takes People’s Party of Kenya into the opposition
Key points
- Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro on Monday 17 August said he has joined People’s Party of Kenya as leader and the United Opposition.
- He said he left UDA “a long time ago” and mocked the “wheelbarrow” brand.
- He listed a year of talks with Peter Munya, Martha Karua, James Orengo, Edwin Sifuna, Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i.
- He asked Kenyans to weigh PPK among leaders who could “shikana mkono” after August next year.
“Kutoka leo, nimeingia chama inaitwa People’s Party of Kenya.” Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro said that on Monday 17 August 2026 as he put a formal stamp on a long walk out of UDA, Eastleigh Voice reported.
“As all members of the People’s Party of Kenya, we have today joined the opposition.” He said the break with the “wheelbarrow party” was already old: “hata wenye wheelbarrow wenyewe watatoka waiwache.” Over about a year he had sat with Peter Munya, Martha Karua, Siaya governor James Orengo, “brother” Edwin Sifuna, Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and “almost for a whole year, Dr Fred Matiang’i.” The point, he said, was a 2027 path with Kenyans at the centre, after a “bird’s-eye view” in government of every sector — aiming, he claimed, at something better than “where Kibaki left.” He asked voters to look at PPK among the hands that might hold after August next year. A presser does not register a party or a coalition pact; ORPP and the others he named still have to show a paper.
A year of teas is not a joint ticket
Munya-to-Matiang’i is a guest list. Until PPK files and a United Opposition MoU exists, Nyoro is one MP with a new letterhead.

ORPP should say whether PPK is fully registered with Nyoro as leader. The named opposition figures should confirm or deny a pact.
Kiharu voters should watch the next nomination, not only the Monday clip.
