Mt Kenya East elders back Ruto–Kindiki 2027 ticket and name Kindiki spokesman

Mt Kenya East elders back Ruto–Kindiki 2027 ticket and name Kindiki spokesman

Key points

  • A section of Mt Kenya East elders from Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi met Saturday and backed a Ruto–Kindiki 2027 ticket.
  • They called on Mt Kenya West and the diaspora to extend to Kindiki the loyalty East has given West leaders.
  • They named DP Kithure Kindiki the only authorised spokesman for the region on politics and development.
  • They said anyone wanting to engage Mt Kenya politically should go through Kindiki.

“Any individual, leader or community seeking to engage the people of Mt. Kenya on any matter, including politics, shall do so through Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.” That was the Saturday line from a council of elders drawn from Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi, KBC reported.

The meeting resolved to support President William Ruto and Kindiki’s re-election in 2027 and to build a framework so East and West of the mountain speak with one voice while keeping each community’s traditions. “We respectfully call upon our brothers and sisters in Mt. Kenya West, including those living in the diaspora, to recognize the historic moment before us and to extend to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki the same spirit of solidarity, loyalty and brotherhood that Mt. Kenya East has historically extended to leaders from Mount Kenya West,” they said. They also called Kindiki the only person authorised to speak for the region. A “section of” elders is not a gazette. Gachagua’s DCP still organises in the same counties, and West leaders have not countersigned this monopoly on the microphone.

A Saturday resolution is not a voters’ roll

Naming one spokesman does not retire other MPs or the former DP. 2027 will be counted at IEBC, not in a elders’ minute that West has yet to answer.

Politics desk: Politics. Verified Saturday meeting, three counties and spokesman claim from KBC.

The council should publish who sat and who signed. Kindiki’s office should say whether it accepts a sole-spokesman brief or treats it as a courtesy.

Mt Kenya West leaders should answer in writing if they want the “one voice” frame to mean anything outside Embu–Meru–Tharaka Nithi.
