Pragmatic Party of Kenya seeks ORPP provisional registration for 2027

Key points

  • Office of the Registrar of Political Parties started provisional registration of the proposed Pragmatic Party of Kenya.
  • Short name: Pragmatic; colours gold, black, green and white; symbol a calculator; slogan “Suluhisho amilifu”.
  • Founders listed: Angwen Alloyce Ochieng, Ndung’u Christine Wambui, Gona Arrhenius Kalama.
  • Public objections allowed within seven days of the notice under Political Parties Act Cap. 7D; Registrar John Lorionokou.

Another calculator has entered Kenya’s crowded party market. The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties is provisionally registering the proposed Pragmatic Party of Kenya as 2027 preparations intensify, Eastleigh Voice reported.

The short name is Pragmatic. Party colours are gold, black, green and white; the proposed symbol is a calculator; the slogan is “Suluhisho amilifu” (active solutions). Three founder members are listed: Angwen Alloyce Ochieng, Ndung’u Christine Wambui and Gona Arrhenius Kalama. ORPP said the process follows Section 5 (2) (a) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D. Members of the public with objections have seven days from publication of the notice to file them in writing or in person at Lion Place, Fourth Floor, off Waiyaki Way, Karuna Close, Nairobi — or via ORPP emails published with the notice. Registrar John Lorionokou directed interested parties to particulars on www.orpp.or.ke. ORPP’s mandate under Section 33 covers registration, regulation and the Political Parties Fund administration.

Registration is easy; relevance is hard

Kenya mints parties every cycle; few survive primaries. A calculator brand only matters if the founders field candidates and publish a funded programme, not only colours.

Politics desk: Politics. Verified founders, symbol and objection window from Eastleigh Voice/ORPP notice.

Objectors should file within the seven-day window with evidence. Voters should watch whether Pragmatic fields candidates beyond the founders’ circle.

Provisional registration is a start, not a ticket to State House.

ORPP should keep the notice, founders list and objection outcomes public so Kenyans can see who is building a party and who is only buying colours for 2027.

Official gazettes, court rulings and agency circulars may update these facts after publication; readers should verify any deadline, fee or court date against primary sources before acting.

Based on Eastleigh Voice reporting of the ORPP notice. Full registration requires further statutory steps.
