How to Apply for a Kenyan Passport (2026 Master Guide)
Key points
- Apply on official eCitizen / Immigration only. Pay the invoice shown in the portal — not a WhatsApp “agent”.
- You still attend biometrics in person (Nyayo House, Mombasa, Kisumu and other gazetted centres).
- First issues: Immigration eCitizen says at least 10 working days after physical submission; other types at least 5 working days.
- If refused or delayed: unpaid invoice, ID/name mismatch, missing originals, and broker forms are the usual causes. Fix the file on eCitizen; do not book travel until the booklet is valid.

A Kenyan passport application starts online, then you print the form and receipts and submit them in person with originals.
Step-by-step
- Create or recover an account on www.ecitizen.go.ke (type the address yourself).
- Open Immigration services → passport application on immigration.ecitizen.go.ke.
- Fill names and dates exactly as on your ID / birth certificate.
- Pay the official invoice (M-Pesa, card, or listed banks).
- Download and print the form and three receipts.
- Submit in person at a designated Immigration office with originals.
- Track status on eCitizen. Collect or receive the booklet as instructed.

What to take to biometrics
- Printed eCitizen form and three receipts.
- Original birth certificate + copy; original National ID + copy.
- Photos if the centre still requires them (follow the form).
- Recommender’s ID copy where required; consent letter for minors.
- Old passport if replacing.
If it goes wrong
- Payment pending: do not travel to Nyayo House until the invoice is paid and receipts print.
- Names do not match ID: Immigration will bounce the file. Correct civil documents first.
- Lost passport: follow police/Immigration instructions, then apply for replacement (higher fee on the table above).
- Broker: you still own the biometrics appointment. Do not hand over ID “for safekeeping”.
