107,000 Community Health Promoters are scheduled to enter Social Health Authority medical cover this month, President William Ruto announced at State House Nairobi — with the national government putting up Sh390 million and counties asked to match that sum, Capital FM reported from the Presidential Communication Service account.
About 8,000 Nairobi CHPs attended the Saturday event. Health CS Aden Duale, Public Health PS Mary Muthoni and Governor Johnson Sakaja were present. Sakaja’s office has already released more than Sh30 million as part of the county contribution path.
Numbers the presidency put on the table
Since the CHP programme launched in October 2023, about 9.4 million households (over 30 million people) have been enrolled on the electronic Community Health Information System (e-CHIS). Ruto said a Pangani facility’s monthly revenue rose from roughly Sh100,000 under NHIF to Sh1.5 million under SHA, with daily patients from about 10 to 150. He put Riruta Level 4 at more than Sh6 million a month versus about Sh200,000 under NHIF.
On the scheme itself, he contrasted NHIF’s eight million members and Sh5.6 billion paid in three months with SHA’s average monthly facility disbursement of about Sh12 billion, saying hospitals would receive another Sh12 billion “by next week” for the current month’s services. Cumulative SHA facility payments were put at Sh170 billion, of which Nairobi hospitals took about Sh32 billion. Nairobi SHA registration: 2.8 million people, about 65% of the county.

Whether premiums actually post on SHA records this month; whether dependants are covered as promised; whether county matching funds land beyond Nairobi. Sakaja’s primary-care line — roughly $1 spent saves $14 later — is a policy claim, not an audited national statistic.
