Courses Offered At Meru University School Of Health Sciences

In the mid 1960s, the council of elders of Meru people (Njuri Ncheke) had already conceived the idea of establishing an institution of higher learning in Meru. They set aside 6641 acres of land that would go towards fulfilling their vision. Meru College of Technology was founded and since then it has expanded to become a notable institution of higher learning. There are various programmes offered at Meru University School of Health Sciences. These are:

Bachelor of Science in Public Health

Meru University of Science and Technology offers Bachelor of Science in Public Health under the School of Health Sciences. Individuals who want to undertake the course should have the following qualifications:

  • Individuals should have obtained a KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Individuals should also have obtained a C+ (plus) in Biology or Biological Sciences and Chemistry. Individuals should have at least C (plain) in English/Kiswahili and at least a C (plain) in Mathematics/Physics.
  • Individuals who have obtained K.A.C.E with at least 2 relevant passes should also apply for the course.
  • Individuals who have relevant diplomas or higher diplomas in Clinical Medicine/Public Health/Community Health/Human Nutrition/Pharmacy or an equivalent qualification should apply.

Individuals who have relevant diplomas may be exempted from one academic year of study as long as they have a minimum of Credit pass. The course takes place over a period of 8 semesters. It is a full time course offered at both the Main Campus and Meru Town Campus and it costs Ksh 50,000 per semester.

Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Development

Meru University of Science and Technology offers Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Development. Individuals who want to apply for the course should meet the following criteria:

  • Individuals should have obtained a minimum of KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus).
  • Individuals should also have obtained at least an average of C (plain) in one of the combinations, namely: Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry, Mathematics/Chemistry/Biology, Mathematics/Physical Science/Biological Science.

The course covers 8 semesters and it costs Ksh 50,000 per semester. Individuals who are accepted into the university should meet the departmental requirements.
