Kalonzo floats Aisha Jumwa as Wiper deputy leader to lock in the Coast
Key points
- Kalonzo Musyoka, speaking in Kwale on Friday, proposed former CS Aisha Jumwa as Wiper deputy party leader.
- Jumwa recently left UDA, citing humiliation over her bid for Kilifi governor in 2027.
- The post is not confirmed: Kalonzo said party leadership will announce after deliberations.
- Days earlier he named Nyali MP Mohamed Ali another deputy, Jamleck Irungu Kamau chair and Ndegwa Njiru first spokesperson.
Friday in Kwale, Kalonzo Musyoka tried to plant a Coast flag on Wiper’s letterhead. The Wiper Patriotic Front leader said he would front former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa for deputy party leader, Eastleigh Voice reported.
“She is a formidable woman who commands respect across the country. When she stands with Wiper Patriotic Front, Kalonzo is respected. I want to propose that she becomes the Deputy Party Leader… The party leadership will formally make the announcement after deliberations,” he said. He added that no other party had given her a similar post despite her experience. Jumwa has just left the ruling United Democratic Alliance, saying she was humiliated in her push for the Kilifi gubernatorial ticket in 2027. The Kwale proposal lands days after Kalonzo named Nyali MP Mohamed Ali another deputy party leader — sold as a Coast-and-youth slot — with former minister Jamleck Irungu Kamau as party chairman and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as first spokesperson. Jumwa’s elevation still has to clear Wiper organs. Two deputies on the masthead can be a coalition math problem as much as a Coast strategy.
A podium offer is not a gazetted office
Until the national executive writes the minute, Jumwa is a campaign guest, not a deputy. UDA will also test whether her Kilifi networks move with her or stay on the government ticket.

Wiper should publish the organ that must vote and the date. Jumwa should say whether she is still running for Kilifi or only holding a national title.
Coast delegates should ask how two deputy leaders split the region before nomination season starts.
