Nursing course in Kenya is becoming of the marketable courses because there is emergence of many health care facilities in the country and the nurses are the core health care providers who are required to manage patients and clients attending these health care institutions for various health services. Although Kenya medical training college (KMTC) have been training nurses at certificate, diploma and higher diploma levels, there has been a need for advancement in their education (to degree level) so as to improve the management of patients and assume managerial posts.

In Kenya, for any institution to offer nursing course, it must be approved by a board from Kenya. This board is known as Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK). It is the one that deals with approval of institutions that wishes to train nurses at any level of education and they are located in Nairobi city.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BscN) is degree course that began in 1987 in Kenya by Baraton University. Due to its demand, this course is now offered by many institutions; both private and public. The public institutions that have been approved by NCK to offer a degree in nursing (BscN) in Kenya includes:

  • Egerton University – Njoro town.
  • Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) – Nairobi city.

  • Kisii University – Kisii town.
  • Moi University – Eldoret town.
  • Pwani Univesity College – Mombasa city.
  • Kabianga University Colloege – Kericho town.
  • Dedan Kimathi University – Meru.

The private institutions approved by NCK to offer BscN in Kenya includes:

  • Aga Khan University – Nairobi city.
