  • The vehicle, known locally as Nidhamu, carried about 50 passengers from Nthongoni in Kibwezi East toward Ikangavya for a dowry ceremony.
  • Kenya Red Cross, county disaster teams and police worked the scene; four serious cases went to Wote, 24 minor to Matiliku.
  • The seven bodies — six men, one woman — were taken to Kilome Hospital mortuary; police are still investigating the cause.

About 6:30 pm on Friday the Kalamba–Kalembwani murram road in Maumba gave way under a packed minibus. The vehicle, known locally as Nidhamu, left the hill at Kalembwani, Makueni, and rolled several times, Eastleigh Voice reported.

About 50 passengers were travelling from Nthongoni in Kibwezi East / Ivingoni Ward toward Ikangavya for a dowry payment and celebrations. Seven died — six men and one woman. Twenty-eight were hurt: four serious cases referred to Wote County Hospital, 24 with minor injuries treated and listed stable at Matiliku Sub-County Hospital. Kenya Red Cross said a multi-agency team with county disaster officials and police evacuated injured people to Makueni County Referral Hospital while the scene was cleared. The county Emergency Response Unit, health department and Red Cross Makueni branch sent three ambulances and a County Emergency Land Cruiser. Crews pulled people from the wreckage. Bodies went to Kilome Hospital mortuary for postmortem and identification. Police processed the scene; the wreck was still there pending a tow. Officials have not named a cause. NTSA and NPS routinely list speeding, overtaking, drink-driving and worn brakes or tyres on such hills — none of that is yet a finding on this file.

A murram hill is not a passenger schedule

Fifty people on a steep earth road at dusk is a known risk, not a surprise. NTSA should say whether Nidhamu was licensed for that load and whether the Kalembwani stretch is already a black spot.

Families should use Kilome and hospital lists, not WhatsApp names. County should publish a verified casualty board within 24 hours.

NTSA ought to inspect the wreck before it is stripped and post a preliminary note on speed, load and mechanicals.
