A shopkeeper’s murder on the Mount Elgon fringe has produced three names and a weapons stash. Detectives probing the killing of Nathan Masai Wasama, 61, in Cheptais Sub-County have arrested three suspects while hunting others, KBC reported.
Wasama was shot dead on the night of 8 August 2026 at his shop in Tuikut Trading Centre, Sasur Location, after four men rode in on two motorcycles. One pillion passenger entered the shop and opened fire before the group fled. A woman was also shot and remains in a local hospital in stable condition. First in custody was Oscar Koech Sakong; a later warrant-backed raid in Marigo Village, Cheptais Location, netted Wycliffe Chesubei Ngeiwa, alias Chota, and Geoffrey Makwere Masai.
Items recovered included a military-style smoke jacket, a stun grenade, three axes, a crowbar, folding and straight pangas, knives, five arrows, three motorcycles, two mobile phones and an iPod. The two later arrestees were being processed for arraignment and custodial orders to extend investigations.
