Edwin Kituyi opened the Golf Masters series in impressive fashion, defeating a field of 247 competitors to claim victory in the tournament’s opening round and announce himself as a contender to watch across the remaining legs of the nationwide amateur circuit.
Kituyi’s winning margin came in a keenly contested field that included seasoned club golfers and rising amateurs from multiple counties, making the victory a statement of intent for the series ahead. The Golf Masters, which draws some of the most competitive club-level talent in the country, is structured as a multi-venue series designed to reward consistency across different course conditions and terrains.
The competition will now move through twelve additional Kenyan courses, each presenting its own character and challenges. Among the venues scheduled are Nakuru Golf Club, set in Kenya’s Rift Valley; Muthaiga Golf Club, one of Nairobi’s most prestigious private clubs; Karen Country Club, known for its demanding layout in the Nairobi suburbs; Nyali Country Club along the coast; Sigona Golf Club; and Kericho Golf Club in the tea-growing highlands of western Kenya.
The geographic spread of the series is deliberate, reflecting efforts by Kenyan golf organisers to democratise elite amateur competition and surface talent from regions outside the traditional Nairobi-centric golfing corridor. Courses like Kericho and Nyali serve county-level players who rarely compete on the same stage as Nairobi-based members.
With twelve legs remaining, the series points table remains wide open. Kituyi’s early lead will require defending against a large and motivated pool of competitors across wildly different course profiles. Kenya Golf Union officials are expected to monitor the series closely as a talent identification pathway for the national amateur squad.
