Sh8.2bn Meth Trial: Six Iranians Face Kenya's Biggest Drug Case

Kenya's most valuable drug trafficking prosecution moved a decisive step forward on June 26, 2026, when the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions closed its case at Shanzu Chief Magistrate's Court in Mombasa against six Iranian nationals accused of smuggling over a tonne of methamphetamine with a combined street value of Sh8,288,352,000.

Prosecution Closes Case Against Six Accused

The six accused — Jaseem Darzadeh Nia, Nadeem Jadgal, Hassan Baloch, Raheem Baksh, Imran Baloch, and Imtiyaz Daryay — appeared before Shanzu Chief Magistrate Anthony Mwicigi as prosecutors formally wrapped up their evidence presentation. The case was built around testimony from 12 prosecution witnesses. Officers recovered 1,036 kilograms of methamphetamine distributed across 769 tightly sealed packets. Magistrate Mwicigi directed both sides to file written submissions within 14 days of June 26, with the case set for mention on July 13, 2026.

What Comes Next

The July 13 mention date will be decisive: if the magistrate finds a prima facie case has been established, all six accused will be required to enter their defence.
