More than 34,000 promotion slots and a path for 20,000 Junior Secondary tutors onto permanent and pensionable pay — that was the concrete TSC offer TSC chair Dr Jamleck Muturi put on the record at St. George’s Girls Secondary School’s 40th anniversary in Nairobi on Friday, Capital FM reported.
He nested the new advert in a longer Ruto-era ledger: 100,000 teachers hired and 270,000 promoted over three years. Motivation language followed — motivated teacher, motivated learner — but the test teachers will apply is whether the portal opens on schedule, whether scoring is transparent, and whether JSS confirmations actually hit payroll, not only speeches.
Budget frame and other clocks
Education CS Julius Ogamba, speaking for President William Ruto, put the 2026/27 education envelope at Sh784.5 billion — described as the largest national education allocation — to underwrite Competency-Based Education, digital learning and BETA-aligned skills. He also flagged probes into school unrest and urged parental partnership.
Students already placed for 2026/27 have a practical deadline: the KUCCPS inter-institutional transfer window runs to 14 August, after placement of 293,869 learners into universities, TVETs and teacher colleges. Locally, Muturi pledged to fix an 11-teacher shortfall at the host school — a micro example of the national staffing gap the promotions are meant to ease.
