The Kenya Volleyball Federation Women’s League playoffs have moved into a thrilling new chapter, with four clubs confirming their places in the semifinals after a series of compelling quarterfinal showdowns. The playoff stage, hosted at the Aga Khan Hall in Mombasa, produced a mix of dominant sweeps and heart-stopping drama that has set the tone for what promises to be a fiercely contested final four.
Defending champions Kenya Pipeline were in ruthless form as they eliminated Nairobi Prisons in a straight-set series, wrapping up the tie on Saturday without dropping a single game. In the decisive match, Pipeline dismantled their opponents 25-20, 25-15 and 25-14, a scoreline that reflected just how wide the gap between the two sides was on the day. The Oil Dealers served notice to all remaining rivals that their grip on the national title is far from loosening.
Kenya Prisons were equally commanding in a disciplined forces derby against Kenya Army, sealing their series with a controlled 25-12, 25-15, 25-11 victory after having already claimed the opening encounter. The wardens combined sharp serve reception with clinical finishing to leave Kenya Army with no answers, booking a well-deserved semifinal berth in authoritative fashion.
Two-time African champions KCB Volleyball added further glamour to the semifinals by completing a 2-0 series sweep over Kenya Defence Forces. Their Saturday performance was a masterclass in efficient volleyball, winning 25-15, 25-17, 25-12 to underline the bank-sponsored side’s continental pedigree. KCB’s blend of tactical discipline and attacking power remains a formidable combination, and opponents in the last four would do well to take notice.
The most gripping contest of the quarterfinal stage came from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, who survived a gruelling five-set encounter against a stubborn Postbank Queens outfit. The two teams traded sets in what was arguably the standout tie of the entire playoff round, with neither side willing to yield. When the contest reached its ultimate moment, DCI held their nerve to clinch the winner-takes-all fifth set 15-9, ending a valiant campaign by Postbank Queens.
With four clubs now confirmed in the semifinals — Pipeline, Kenya Prisons, KCB and DCI — Kenyan volleyball fans have every reason to look forward with anticipation. Each of the four sides carries genuine title ambitions and distinct strengths, guaranteeing that the road to the championship will be fiercely contested. The battle for glory in the Kenya Volleyball Federation Women’s League is well and truly on.
