Minimum Admission Requirements to School of Engineering University of Nairobi (UON)

• KCSE (Mean C+) and C+ passes in each of the four cluster subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or any Group III, IV and V; or

• Advanced Level Certificate: Two principal passes in Maths and Physics with subsidiary pass in Chemistry. For B.Sc. in Geospatial Engineering, a subsidiary pass in Geography is acceptable in lieu of Chemistry; or

• Ordinary Diploma from a recognized institution with Credit Passes in the relevant subjects; or

• Higher National Diploma from a recognized institution with passes in relevant subjects; or

• Technical/Science Diploma from a recognized institution with Credit Passes in Mathematics and Chemistry from a recognized institution; or

•  B.Sc or B.Ed (Science) from a recognized institution; or other appropriate technical qualification at degree level.

Price Increase

Raising prices is another way of making university students to give up ith their education and look for the possible ways of catering for their basic needs and essentials.Raising prices makes it hard for the students to cope up with the continous hardships affecting them making them go to strike as a way of showing the concerned officials that the system chosen is very unfair to them.Vice chancellors should avoid putting orders to raise prices to avoid sending students to strike.

When the top officials engage in poor managerial skills by doing things not fair to all such as embezzelment of funds and corruption,the message reaches the respective students hence prompting them to strike as a ay of raising an appeal for justice.Universities should look for the top officials that have good leadership skills to help cater for the needs of eeach and every student in the university.

Denial of services

It is good that proper systems in education allow the students to enjoy some basic rights and priveleges such as going out for tours and visiting the places of their interest.When such are denied,they end up striking and destroying alot of property in the longrun.Students should be given time to visit places as they pay for the services.

Chuka University is a fully chartered public university in Kenya and is located in Chuka town along Nairobi Meru highway. This university (Chuka) is approximately 187 kilometers from Nairobi city. The university was a former constituent college of Egerton university in Kenya and it was called Chuka University College. Nutrition and Dietetics is one of the departments in Mount Kenya University which offer the programmes: Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, a diploma in Clinical and Community Nutrition and a certificate in Clinical and Community Nutrition. This department was created due to the high incidence and prevalence of preventable diseases, the emergence of new diseases, food insecurity and the need for proper nutrition which led to high demand of the training institution to offer nutrition related courses.

This department therefore opt to offer the courses named above through block semester and tri-semester mode of delivery which encourage methods that encourage learner-centered active learning which include lectures, tutorials, group discussion, demonstrations, assignments, laboratory practicals, field trips and research projects. This programme takes a period of four academic years in which the students should have completed a total of 56 units and pass all of them, undertake one field industrial attachment equivalent to seven units and write a research project comprising of two units for the full qualification for the certification of the Bachelor in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Entry Requirements to the undergraduate programme:

Direct Entry;

All the students admitted in the school of Health Science, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics to pursue Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics must satisfy the requirements that:

i)                    They must satisfy the common university requirements for admission or candidates should be a Holder of Division II at KCE or EACE or KACE with at least two principals

Or

ii)                   A diploma from a recognized institution in the following areas: Nutrition and Dietetics, Community Nutrition, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Community Health, and other health related courses recognized by the University Senate.

iii)                 In addition, candidates must have obtained at least a C (plain) the minimum cut-off points drawn from KCSE and C (plain) level or its equivalent for each of the following subjects: Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry or Physical Science, Biology/Biological Sciences, English or Kiswahili.

Entry Vide University Bridging;

A holder of KCSE certificate or equivalent with a minimum of C+ and lacking a cluster subject either Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry/ Physical Science, Biology/Biological Science, English or Kiswahili.

A holder of EACE certificate or equivalent with a minimum of two principals and lacking O level cluster subject grade as explained above.

The course can also be undertaken through credit transfers and exemptions depending on the qualification of the applicants. Through Credit transfer policy;

i)                    The applicant must have attained the pass mark in the subjects considered for the credit transfer/exemption from an institution recognized by the senate.

ii)                   The applicants must have passed the final examination of the year in which the subjected to be exempted was examined. There also exist conditions seeking the transfer/exemption for a particular subject which are: – the applicants shall pay a non-refundable credit transfer/exemption fee as determined by the School of Board and approved by the senate, a formal application on a prescribed form should be lodged with the Dean of School, the application should include justification and documentary support for the exemption to be considered, the school of board may require the applicant to sit for an examination and no exemption shall be granted for professional of clinical subjects.

Nutrition and Dietetics degree Registration:

After the applicants have been successfully enrolled for the programme, they should ensure that they all fully registered by paying the full fees as per semester or academic year and filing various application forms from the university as detailed in the fee structure and registration regulations provided in the Students Information handbook.

Kenyatta University offers Bachelor of Science in Crop Improvement and Protection undergraduate course to all individuals who qualify. The program runs for a period of four years with each student required to complete a minimum of 54 units. During the duration of the undergraduate degree program, students are required to undertake a field attachment. This field attachment takes place after the completion of the third year and it involves each student being attached to an institution for a period of three months. There are several requirements that individuals should meet in order to be eligible to undertake the course. These are:

Bachelor of Science in Crop Improvement and Protection Admission Criteria

• Applicants should have the minimum University entrance requirement of Mean grade of C+ (plus) or equivalent.
  
  

• Applicants should also have acquired at least C+ in Biology/Biological Sciences with at least C+ in two other subjects such as Agriculture, Chemistry, Geography, Physical Science/Physics.

• Applicants should have acquired a Grade C (plain) in Mathematics or an equivalent.

• Applicants who have attained Mean grade of C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent and who have a Diploma from a recognized institution with at least a credit pass in relevant fields are also eligible to undertake the course.

During the third year of field attachment the students will be examined by a university supervisor. This will be done twice and each field course trip course will be examined via students’ diary, a written examination and a report. In addition, each student undertaking the Bachelor of Science in crop improvement and Protection will be required to undertake a research project. The research project shall be done in the fourth year of study and it will constitute of two units.

Fee Structure for Bachelor of Science in Crop Improvement and Protection

The tuition fee for the degree course is as follows: Regular tuition is Ksh 120,000 per annum for East African students. Non East Africans, students who come from other parts of the world, are required to pay a fee of Ksh 175,000. Apart from the regular fee, there is a statutory fee of Ksh 21,200 per annum.
