Gretsa University is a private university in Kenya which is located in Thika town along the Thika-Garissa road. This university is dully registered and accredited by the commission of university education and was first established as a university in 2006. Bachelor of Commerce in the option of Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Operational Management, Procurement and Supply, Chain Management, Business Information, Cooperative and Micro-Financing Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management and Insurance and Risk Management. The candidates may take up extra units and graduate with double major or major/minor combination such as B.com (Double major, accounting and Finance) or B.com (Finance major, Accounting minor), B.com (Marketing major, Finance minor) thus saving time and money. The Minimum requirements for the course is C+ (plus) at KCSE, holder of relevant 2 academic year Diplomas join 2nd year of study while those with higher national diplomas join the 3rd year of study. The amount of fee required per trimester is Ksh 51,000 for Full time, evening/ weekends and 45,000 for open and distance learning.

Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management course is offered in this university and it requires a C+ at KCSE level direct entry and a C (plain) in Mathematics and English/Kiswahili. The fee required per trimester is Ksh 55,000 for fulltime, evening and weekend classes while those students who want to learn as open learning and distance learning pay a total of Ksh 45,000.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in Gretsa University require the candidates to have attained a C+(plus) at KCSE level and a C (plain) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The course is offered in 8 semesters and the tuition fee required per trimester is Ksh55, 000 and Ksh 45,000 for Open learning and Distance learning mode of study.

Gretsa University also offer the pre-university courses which are commonly referred to as bridging course. This university ensure that the bridging courses they offer to its students will open up their minds and enable them to get the degree programmes or diploma of the careers they want to dwell on. They offer bridging of any subject which takes a period of 3 months. However, any candidate who want to have the bridging course at Gretsa University should have attained a general KCSE grade of C (plain). They charge any of the subjects bridged Ksh 35,000 for the full completion.

Gretsa University also offers diploma, certificate and foundation certificate programmes in different fields such as Business Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Banking and Finance, Purchasing and Supply, Hotel and Restaurant, Travel and Tourism, Food and Beverage, Computer Science, Information Technology,, Business Information Technology, Health Records and Information Technology, Education (Arts, Early Childhood Education, Special Needs Education), Social Work and Community Development, Counselling Psychology, Project Management, Community Health, Public Health and Community Nutrition. All these courses have diploma, certificate and foundation certificate classes but the entry requirement is the variation. Those undertaking Diploma need to have a C (plain) in KCSE, D+ (plus) in KCSE for certificate and a D (plain) in Foundation in Certificate in any of them. However, diploma pays Ksh 25,000 for fulltime and Ksh 22,000 for Open and Distance learning. The certificate courses pay Ksh 25,000 for full time and foundation certificate courses have to pay Ksh 22,000 for full time.

Admission criteria

The duration of the study takes up to 4 years with the option of enrolling for day or evening classes. The degree has a minimum of 56 units that a student has to complete in the duration of the time there. However for individuals who are interested in pursuing this as a life time career there are certain admission criteria requirements that have to be satisfied first;

• Applicants should have attained a minimum grade of C+ grade or equivalent in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
• The applicant should also have obtained at least a c plain in mathematics alone with at least a c+ in the following subjects, namely; Biology, physics, business studies, chemistry or economics
• Applicants are also eligible to apply if they have professional certificates, like CPA, CPS or ACCA
• Individuals who have attained a c plain in KCSE are also eligible in the addition of certain credentials;

Diploma in fields such as accounting, economics, business administration or a related field as long as they acquired a minimum of a credit in the said course.

Certificate Course In Management

Kenya Institute of Management offers a Certificate Course In Management. There are certain stipulations for those who want to take the certificate course in management. • Applicants need to have a mean grade C- with a C- in subjects such as Business Studies/ Accounting/ Business Studies/ Commerce/ Economics or English and Maths. • Applicants who do not meet the first requirement but have gone through the bridging course also qualify to apply.• O-Level Division III• A-Level Certificate• KATC Intermediate level• Applicants who have a certificate in a field that is not related to business are also eligible for the course.• Also, individuals with any other qualification that is equivalent to those mentioned can also apply for the certificate course in management.KIM, Nairobi offers a diploma course in management. Diploma Course In Management – Section 1

The first section of Diploma Course in Management takes place within a six month period. Applicants need to have the following qualifications:• Applicants should have the minimum requirement of C+ with a C+ in subjects such as Accounting/ Business Studies/ Commerce/ Economics/ English and Maths• Those who have already attained a KIM Certificate In Management are also eligible for the course.• P1 Certificate• CPA I or CPS I• A KNEC Certificate in any field related to business• KATC Final• Or any equivalent qualification from a registered institutionThe total fee for the six month duration is Ksh 31, 500.

Diploma Course In Management – Section 2

The second section of the Diploma Course in Management covers a period of six months. The total fee charged is Ksh 38,000. The course has several areas of specialization including Business Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Public Relations Management, Project Management and also Purchasing and Supplies Management. Those who want to pursue this second section directly need to have the following qualifications:• CPA II or CPS II• Degree from a recognized University• Diploma from a recognized institution in a course that is related to the course of interest.• Those who already have a Diploma from Section 1 at KIM are also eligible take the Section 2 course.• Applicants with a higher diploma are also welcomed to take the course• Individuals who are in their 3rd year or 4th year at a university can apply so long as they provide their transcripts.

As is with the first section, the Diploma Course in Management Section 2 and the Diploma Course in Management Section 3 take a period of six months each. Section 3 is Ksh 44, 000 only. Admission Procedure for the use of the Library

For the use of the library resources and materials, the interested students should ensure that they are registered to the library service and the registration process require a completed registration form obtained from the circulation librarian. After the completion of the form, the applicant must sign the declaration to abide by regulations as well as ensure that their contact details given on the registration form is up-to-date and correct.

After the registration process, the applicants can access the library resources without no charges. However, non-members of the university even if registered, are required to produce a recommendation letter from the local chief or employer and this should be accompanied by a non-refundable fee of Ksh 50 per day.

Book Borrowing Regulations

In order to borrow a book from this library, the right is accorded to the registered members only and certain materials such as newspapers cannot be borrowed for use outside the library. Other regulation involved in the borrowing of reading materials from the library are that no library item should be taken out of the library unless it is officially issued, the user name whose the material is under shall be solely responsible for the return of the material, the information resources which are not available in the library may be obtained through the inter-library loan once requests are made to the circulation librarian, all the students may borrow 3 books, teaching staff 4 and the non-teaching staff can borrow at most 3 books and a member who loses a University ID card cannot be served or gain entry to the library unless on presentation of the valid documentation to support the loss.
