The Best Secondary Schools in Turkana County.

Turkana County is the largest county in Kenya and again ranked the poorest county in Kenya. It is bordered by countries such as Ethiopia, Uganda and the newly formed country; South Sudan. The majority of people who reside in this county are the Turkana people.

This county (Turkana County) is among the counties that have few schools and inadequate personnel (teachers). Inadequacy of teachers contributes to poor performance in many of secondary schools in Turkana County. The harshness of the environment also contributes to poor performance.

Despite the fact that Turkana is a semi-arid area, there are few schools that perform well in Kenya certificate of secondary education (KCSE) examinations in Kenya every year hence take students to universities. This is also attributed by the university admission cut points which are also adjusted accommodate students from hardship areas such as Turkana county.

As I said before that there are few secondary schools in Turkana County that performs better at KCSE. These schools are:

Turkana Girls Secondary School.

This is a school that was formed in 1970s and has been the best school in KCSE every year in Turkana County. Many students join university from this school every year. It is located in Loima constituency and is 57 kilometers from Lodwar town. The cost of fare is Kshs.200 from Lodwar town to this school. This school is located in a centre called Lorugum. Lodwar Boys High School.

Katilu Secondary School.

Katilu secondary school is located in a trading center called Katilu in Turkana South constituency, 110 kilometers from Lodwar town. It is located 20 kilometer from Lodwar – Kitale road before a village known as Kalimng’orok. It is only Kshs.500 form Lodwar town to katilu. It also performs well in KCSE examinations every year. AIC Kang’itit Girls Secondary School.

This is the second secondary girls’ school in Turkana County that performs well in KCSE examinations. It is located in Turkana East district in a trading center called Lokori, approximately 170 kilometers from Lodwar town. Kainuk Mixed Secondary School.
