Tenwek school of Nursing is among the approved institutions in Kenya that offer a diploma course in nursing. The nursing council of Kenya (NCK) is only board that approves nursing courses at any level in Kenya. This school was founded in 1987 and trained enrolled community nurses (ECN) which was a certificate course in nursing until 1999 when they began training nurses at diploma level nowadays known as Kenya Registered Community Health Nurses (KRCHN).

Those students admitted to this college are normally accommodated within college because the school has hostels that accommodate all the students. The sports department is well arranged and students participate in games such as darts, volleyball and table tennis. Their library is well equipped with over 3500 different nursing books to equip students with h. The students of this college go to Tenwek hospital for their practicals.

Since Tenwek School of nursing is one the best performing colleges in Kenya in nursing council examination, they ensure that students who are admitted are discipline, Christian bound and performed well in their Kenya certificate of secondary education (K.C.S.E). Therefore, the minimum requirement for one to eligible for admission to pursue nursing course (KRCHN) in Tenwek School of nursing includes:

  • One should have obtained a mean grade of C (plain) at K.C.S.E or higher than that.
  • Applicant obtained a minimum of C (plain) or higher than this in English or Kiswahili.
  • Applicant should have a minimum of C (plain) in biology or biological sciences.
  • Applicant should have obtained a minimum of C- (minus) in any of the following:

i)                    Mathematics.

ii)                  Chemistry.

iii)                Physics.

iv)                Physical sciences.

The other requirement which one must fulfill to qualify for admission is applicant must be a citizen of Kenya and must be a committed Christian.

The application form for admission is obtained by downloading it from the college website at www.tenwek.com, filled and returned to college (Tenwek). The training of KRCHN takes a period of three and half years where a student will graduate as a qualified a general nurse, midwife and a community health nurse upon licensure by the nursing council of Kenya through written examinations. The total fees paid to train nurses in Tenwek School of nursing is Kshs.475, 000.
