Maseno University quickly realized the niche created in public health and community development nexus due to explosion in information,advanced technology and the increased movement of people and culture and took a step forward to establish the School of Public Health and Community Development (SPHCD)to address the obtaining problems and challenges for the Great Lakes region and beyond under the leadership of Dean of the School of Public Health and Community Development Prof.Rosebella Onyango.On completion,the graduate of the school of Public Health and Community development becomes equiped with practical knowledge in public health,biomedical sciences and technology,applied research and community outreach for enhancement of economic,social,cultural and technological advancement of communities in Kenya and also other countries.The graduates of the school are able to complement human resource with related qualification.

The School of Public Health and Community has several departments which include:

       -Department of Biomedical Sciences

       -Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

       -Department of Public Health

The School of Public Health and Community Development(SPHCD) has well qualified and experienced lecturers who are ready and work hard to fully equip the students with enough knowledge in the fields of healthcare,medical research,health consultancy and any health related issue.The Biomedical Sciences offered by the school include Pharmaceutical Sciences,Medical Biotechnology courses and Medical Laboratory courses.Some of the units/subjects are common units which are shared by the students from the different departments.The SPHCD offers both diploma courses,degree courses and postgraduate courses both master’s degree and Philosophy of Doctorate(PhD) courses.
