Due to advancement of education systems in Kenya, majority of people can know learn while working. Those who cannot afford to travel to main campus of the university an also learn through distance learning. The University of Nairobi (UoN) introduce is one of the universities in Kenya that introduced the programme (continuing and distance education) to cater for those who want to study while working and also those who can afford to travel to main campus for studies.
The programmes offered at the school of continuing and distance education are on the basis of part time, full time and distance. Diploma and certificate courses are offered on part time only, education courses are on distance learning basis while postgraduate courses are on part time basis.
Certificate programmes offered at the school of continuing and distance education includes certificate in:

- Human Resource Management.
- Adult Education and Community Development.
- Youth in Development Work.

- Dip. in Purchasing and Supplies Management.
- Dip. in Guidance and Counselling.
The degree programmes available at the school of continuing and distance education (University of Nairobi) are:
- B.Ed Arts.

- Bachelor of Arts in Project Planning and Management.
The postgraduate programmes offered at the school of continuing and distance education include:

All evening and Saturdays postgraduate programmes are taught at the following extra mural centers of the university of Nairobi; Nairobi, Kakamega, Kisumu, Meru, Nakuru, Garissa, Kisii and Kapenguria.
