Recently, the president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta launched `Inua Jamii Cash Programme` in Kenya. `Inua Jamii Cash Programme`was launched in Murang`a County, and it is a conditional cash transfer system that is aimed to utilize Ksh 12 Billion every year.
The president launched a social welfare program in Kenya which is aimed to benefit the extremely poor people in the society. The government of Kenya has been recemtly launching development programs in Kenya which aim at eliminating poverty, making youths in Kenya productive and ensuring growth of entrepreneurial culture in Kenya.
The launching of the social welfare program in Kenya, which took place in Ihura Stadium in Murang’a County, focus on beneficiaries who include: the elderly persons over 65 years old, the disabled persons in the society, the OVCS (Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Kenya) and the extremely poor people.
The identification of the beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii Cash Program in Kenya will be left to the MPs in the society. The Vice President of Kenya, William Ruto said that the program will not tolerate any level of corruption and the cases of corruption reported will be severely punished by law.
The social welfare programme launched will work by remitting cash to the poor in the society via the mobile phone. The Safaricom Mobile Company in Kenya is involved in the Inua Jamii cash Programme in Kenya and will therefore, ensure all beneficiaries without mobile phones get some. The beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii Program will receive monthly payments for survival and growth purposes.
The Inua Jamii Program is meant to assist around 454,000 beneficiaries in 2013/14. The social welfare scheme in Kenya has been made the responsibility of MPs for transparency purposes.
