In Kenya, the tourism and hospitality industries are among the top industries that bring revenue into the country. As a matter of fact, many Kenyans tend to suffer whenever a ban or a crisis affects the tourism and hospitality industries. Among the things that affect tourism is the demand for agricultural land. People want to farm and some do it to the detriment of tourism resources. The government has put into place a new tourism policy that seeks to involve local communities in the management of tourism resources. However, knowledgeable individuals are needed to make this policy effective. It is for this reason that Kisii University encourages students to undertake Bachelor of Ecotourism and Hospitality Management. Individuals wishing to undertake the degree course are required to meet certain requirements.

Bachelor of Ecotourism and Hospitality Management Admission Criteria

  • Individuals should obtain the minimum admission requirement for Universities.
  • In addition, the individual should obtain a minimum of C (plain) in Mathematics, grade of C+ in Biology or a grade of B- in Biologcal Sciences, a grade of C (plain) in Chemistry, a grade of B- in Geography or History and Government, and a minimum of grade C+ in English or Kiswahili in KCSE.
  • Individuals who have a Diploma in Hotel or Tourism Management from a recognized institution are also eligible for the course.
  • Individuals who already have a first degree from a recognized institution can also apply.

Duration and Cost of the Course

The Bachelor of Ecotourism and Hospitality Management course takes place in four academic years. Each semester is scheduled to cover fifteen weeks with two weeks put aside for students to undertake examinations. Students in year 3 undergo eight weeks industrial attachment once they have completed the second semester. Students are required to pay KSh110, 000 per year for the four academic years that the course takes.
