Courses Offered At Mount Kenya University Department Of Hospitality And Tourism Management

In 2004, Mount Kenya University established the department of Hospitality and Tourism. Since then, the department has transformed to cater to a huge number of students. Two training restaurants and two demonstration kitchens ensure that students gain the practical knowledge needed to become fully skilled in their respective careers. The department offers post graduate courses, undergraduate courses, diploma courses and certificate courses. These are:

Masters of Science in Hospitality Management

Individuals who want to undertake Masters of Science in Hospitality Management should have obtained a Bachelors degree, 2nd class honours. Those who have an equivalent qualification that is recognized by the senate are also welcome to apply. The course takes place in 6 sessions with each session costing Ksh 45,000.

Bachelors of Science in Travel and Tourism Management

Individuals who wish to pursue Bachelors of Science in Travel and Tourism Management should have obtained:

  • Individuals should have obtained a mean grade if at least C+ (plus) at KCSE with a C (plain) in at least three of the following: Biology/Chemistry, English/Kiswahili, Home Science and Humanities.
  • Individuals with a relevant diploma from a recognized institution are also welcome to apply for the course.

The course takes place over a period of 8 semesters and it costs Ksh. 65,000 per semester.

Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management

Individuals who want to undertake Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management should have:

  • Individuals should have obtained a mean grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE with a C (plain) in at least three of the following: Biology/Chemistry, English/Kiswahili, Home Science and humanities.
  • Individuals who are holders of a relevant Diploma from a recognized institution can also apply.

The course covers 8 semesters and it costs Ksh 65,000 per semester.

Diploma in Travel and Tourism Management

Individuals who want to undertake Diploma in Travel and Tourism Management should have obtained at least a mean grade of C (plain) in KCSE. Individuals who are holders of a Certificate in Tourism Management from a recognized institution can also apply for the course. The course covers 6 trimesters and costs Ksh 25,550 per semester.

Diploma in Hospitality Management

Individuals who want to undertake Diploma in Hospitality Management should have obtained at least a mean grade of C (plain) in KCSE. Individuals who are holders of a Certificate in Hospitality Management from a recognized institution can also apply for the course. The course covers 7 trimesters and costs Ksh 29,550 per semester.

Certificate in Travel and Tourism Management

Individuals who want to undertake Certificate in Travel and Tourism Management should have obtained at least a mea grade of C- (minus) at KCSE. It is a 4 trimester course that costs Ksh. 25,500 per semester.

Certificate in Hospitality Management

Individuals who want to undertake Certificate in Hospitality Management should have obtained at least a mea grade of C- (minus) at KCSE. It is a 4 trimester course that costs Ksh. 27,500 per semester
