Universities in Kenya have developed rapidly since the past few years majorly due to the educational revolution taking place in the world. A lot of people have been able to access education easily due to this rapid development of the institutions. For instance, for the past five years most of the constituent colleges and technical institutions have been offer full university charters to operate as full-fledged universities in Kenya. This has therefore seen the introduction of different and variety of courses which will enable the people to study and acquire the necessary skills for their brighter future.

Theology is one of the fields of study that has been able to develop and students have enrolled for it in the various institutions that offer it. Catholic University of Eastern Africa is one of the institutions that was developed and established to offer the programme to the rising students demand.

Catholic University of Eastern Africa was one of the first institutions to offer Theology as it commenced as a graduate school of Theology known as Catholic Higher Institute of Eastern Africa (CHIEA). This institution was later advanced to the current university and it has since then developed with other branches all over the country in towns like Kisumu, Eldoret and Nairobi-Lang’ata campuses with various faculties. The faculties well-established recently in this university are Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Science, Theology, Education, Commerce and Faculty of Science all of which offer different courses in their related fields.

The faculty of Theology been the most advanced since it is the founder faculty of the university and offer different programmes that are diverse. They have both certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate as well as Post graduate programmes. The various academic programmes that the faculty of Theology offer include;

Certificate and Diploma courses

Validated Certificate in Theological Studies, Sabbatical Year on Spirituality of Communion and Diploma in Theological Studies, Chaplaincy and Spiritual Guidance, Spiritual and Religious Formation and diploma in Ecumenism and Interfaith Studies. Other Diploma courses offered in this Faculty are Diploma in Evangelization and Catechesis, Church and Mission, Charismatic and Healing Ministry, Ethical Issues, Pastoral Psychology and Counselling, Pastoral Liturgy as well as a Diploma in Biblical Theology.

Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses

The Undergraduate courses in this Faculty are Bachelor of Theology and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology. The other courses offered are Post graduate and include Master of Theology with the Specialization in Biblical Theology, Dogmatic Theology, Spiritual Theology, Pastoral Theology, Moral Theology and Sacred Theology, Licentiate in Sacred Theology with specialization in any of Biblical Theology, Dogmatic Theology or Moral Theology, Doctor of Philosophy with the option of Biblical Theology, Dogmatic Theology, Spiritual Theology, Pastoral Theology, Moral Theology and Sacred Liturgy. Other than those Post graduate courses, the others are Doctorate in Sacred Theology with any options in Biblical Theology, Dogmatic Theology or Moral Theology.
