The Bata Shoe Company was set up in 1894 by three siblings, Tomas, Anna and Antonin Bata in the Czech Republic. A year later, Antonin left for the army, and Anna got married leaving Tomas Bata to run the nascent company by himself. Tomas died in a plane crash in 1932, and it is his son Thomas. J. Bata who grew the Bata Shoe Company to its current fame. Thomas Bata, however, died in 2008. The Bata Shoe Company operates in 5 continents and in over 70 countries in the world.
