The Bata Shoe Company was set up in 1894 by three siblings, Tomas, Anna and Antonin Bata in the Czech Republic. A year later, Antonin left for the army, and Anna got married leaving Tomas Bata to run the nascent company by himself. Tomas died in a plane crash in 1932, and it is his son Thomas. J.
