Education has gone to another level especially in the current Kenya where even the elderly have gone back to school and embrace the new modes of studying. Education in the higher institutions have been modified to ensure that after the graduates have completed their studies, they can be able to apply the skills they acquired in college to the real life situation.

Mount Kenya University has therefore been developed since the recent past to accommodate the ever growing number of students who wish to study the different programmes that they offer in their different departments from different campuses. MKU has developed and offer most of the best courses in the country with the best environment.

MKU has a department of Accounting and Finance based in the School of Business and Economics through which different Business-related courses are offered by the qualified lecturers. The courses offered under this department either Certificate, Undergraduate of Post-graduate include;

Diploma/Certificate in Financial Science in which the certificate course takes a period of 2 semesters while the Diploma Course takes a period of 3 semesters. The requirements for the enrollment of the Diploma course is a KCSE mean grade of C and a C in Mathematics and English and at least a C- (minus) in KCSE and a C- (Minus) in Mathematics and English for the Certificate course.

Diploma/Certificate in Accounting where the minimum requirements is at least a C (Plain) and C- (Minus) in Mathematics an English for Diploma and at least a C- (minus) in KCSE mean grade with a minimum of C- (minus) in Mathematics and English for the certificate course. The Diploma course is offered in 3 semester and Ksh 20,550 per semester tuition fee while the certificate course takes a period of 2 semester with a tuition fee of Ksh 20,550 per semester.

Diploma in Banking and Finance is also offered under this department in regular, evening and weekend class basis. The course require a KCSE mean Grade of C with a minimum of C- (minus) in Mathematics and English or a relevant certificate in a related field with at least a PASS.

Bachelor of Commerce is an undergraduate course that the department of Accounting and Finance offer to its enrolling students. For the successful admission to this career programme, a student should have attained at least a KCSE Mean grade of C+ (Plus) with at least a C+ (Plus) in Mathematics and English/Kiswahili or a Diploma from a relevant Field of Study. The tuition fee for the course is Ksh 60,000 per semester and it is offered in Regular, Evening and weekend Classes.

Master of Business Administration is one of the Postgraduate course offer under the Department of Accounting and Finance. This course mode of delivery is a School-based or Evening program basis. The requirement for the course is a first degree 2nd class Honours upper division or lower division but with at least two years of relevant experience. The charge is Ksh 65,000 per semester for 6 semesters for the Evening program and Ksh 45,000 per semester for 6 semester for the School-based program.

Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration is the highest level of the course offered by this department. They ensure that they equip the students with best research skills and enable them to be the most skillful in the field of expertize. The students to be admitted into this course should have attained a minimum of a Master’s degree in the area of Specialization and a Bachelors’ Degree from a recognized university with at least 2nd class Honours Upper Division. The student is also required to pay a total cost of Ksh 600,000 for the six semesters that the course will take.
