Courses Offered At The Technical University Of Kenya School Of Information And Communication Studies

Naturally social beings, humans find numerous ways in which to communicate with each other. The ever evolving systems of communication change the way in which information is shared and distributed. Information and communication studies enable individuals to learn the latest the world has to offer in terms of communication. The Technical University of Kenya offers several courses under the School of Information and Communication Studies. These are:

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

The Technical University of Kenya offers Bachelor of Science in information Technology. Those who want to undertake the course should have obtained a minimum of KCSE mean grade of C+ with at least C+ in English/Kiswahili, Maths, Group II/II and a 2nd Group II/III or Group IV/V subjects. The course is 10 semesters long and the tuition fee is Ksh 60,000 per semester.

Bachelor of Technology in Information Studies

Bachelor of Technology in Information Studies costs Kshs 60,000 per semester for a period of 5 semesters. Individuals who want to pursue the course should have obtained a Diploma in Technology (Library and Information Technology) or a diploma in Technology (Archive and Records Managements) or a Diploma in Information Science.

Bachelor of Technology in Journalism and Mass Communication

Individuals who want to pursue Bachelor of Technology in Journalism and Mass Communication should have obtained at least KCSE mean grade of C+ and at least a C+ in English/Kiswahili, Group II/Maths, Group III and Group II/IV/V. The course is 10 semesters and the tuition fee is Ksh 60,000 per semester. Individuals who already have a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from TUK or equivalent are welcome to apply for the course. Those with a Diploma will cover the course in 6 semesters and pay Ksh 60,000 per semester.

Apart from the Bachelor courses offered at the Technical University of Kenya School of Information and Communication Studies, students can pursue various Diploma courses. These include:

Diploma in Archives and Records Management or Diploma in Library and Information Science

Individuals have the option to pursue diploma in Archives and Records Management or Diploma in Library and Information Science. The courses cover 7 semesters each and cost Ksh 36,000 per semester. Individuals wishing to pursue either of the options should have obtained at least a KCSE mean grade of C- with at least C_ in English/Kiswahili, Group II/Maths, Group III and Group II/IV/V or a relevant certificate.

Diploma of Technology in Journalism and Mass Communication

Individuals who want to undertake the Diploma course should have obtained at least a KCSE mean grade of C- with at least C- in English/Kiswahili. Group II/Maths, Group III and Group II/IV/V. the course is 8 semesters and costs Ksh 36,000 per semester.
